Fly Fishing Holidays

Fancy a few days away trout fishing at one of the most reputed venues in the UK, look no further than Anglian Waters who can offer the keenest of fly fishermen the best sport in game fishing available.
For the past four years the author has experienced the finest in trout fishing at Rutland and Grafham Waters, where the organisation, assistance, friendliness and help is second to none by the authority, and their staff to ensure you have a great time fishing.
Fly fishing holidays provide a fantastic opportunity to relax, unwind and leave those everyday stresses behind.

The holiday consists of three days at the venue of your choice, mix and match ie Rutland Water, Grafham Water, Pitsford and Ravensthorpe reservoirs.

The season runs from 11th March to 31st January.
The cost for three days boat fishing is £215 based on two anglers or £36 per angler per day.
The bag limit is eight (8) fish per angler per day plus catch and release.
There is also freezer facilities at the reservoirs should you be fortunate enough to catch your limits and wish to bring your bag home.
The well equipped motor boats also include landing nets, drogue and anchor.
Each venue has a well stocked range of fishing tackle which is subject to a 10% discount.
Parking is so easy after you have offloaded your tackle at the jetty. Your car is moved to the main car park where you enjoy free parking for the duration of the three day holiday.
For more information telephone the lodge at Rutland Water on 01780 686441, to book your three holiday, you will find the staff most helpful.
I have booked early April 2023, as 2022 was the best catch year at both Grafham and Rutland I have experienced. Great time for buzzer fishing !

Accommodation and Eating Out

So, now you’ve decided to go, you will need some shelter a bed for the night and some food.
I can recommend unreservedly the Wisteria Hotel in Oakham, Rutland (Booking.com). Not the cheapest but really good food and attentive staff.
Oakham is a lovely town with many options for eating out including Michelin restaurants.
There are many Hotels and B&B’s in the area, but you would need to be in fairly close proximity to the two main reservoirs.

I do hope this information will be helpful to those of you who are keen fly fishermen, this is a perfect and relaxing way to spend time doing something you really enjoy. Travelling time to Oakham from Hastings is about three hours, so nothing too arduous.

Please let me know if you have intentions of going and require any additional information; I would be more than happy to offer you my thoughts and help on my experiences.
